CO2Image Mission

Objectives and Applications

Mission Goal: The mission shall demonstrate the feasibility of verifying carbon dioxide emissions from localized sources such as coal-fired power plants down to medium source strength (>1 MtCO2/yr) worldwide. Application: Independent verification of reported emissions as a cornerstone toward emission accounting and reduction measures such as agreed on in the Paris climate agreement. In 2018, coal-fired power plants accounted for 30% of the global man-made carbon dioxide emissions.
