Objectives and Applications The Japanese Experiment Module-Exposed Facility (JEM-EF) is an external platform of JEM for conducting scientific observations, Earth observations and experiments in an environment exposed to space. There are 12 Exposed Facility Units (EFUs) on JEM-EF, which were delivered to the module onboard the ISS via multiple H-II Transfer Vehicles (HTV). JEM-EF was launched to the ISS in July 2009.
